British High Commissioner talks on the UK-Brunei link

A recent collaboration with the Ministry of Brunai was mentioned during a speech given by His Excellency Rob Fenn, British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam at the Queen's Birthday Party 2011 celebration in the Indera Samudra Ballroom, The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Jerudong.

"- An Oxford University project will apply Rapid Botanical Survey techniques at 300 sites in Brunei, providing empirical evidence for this country’s status as “Heart of the Heart of Borneo”. The enhanced database at Sungei Liang will show up prominently when anyone – be they scientist, future investor or eco-tourist – types “biodiversity hotspot” into their search engines. The multidisciplinary team forged to support last month’s visit by Oxford showed that Brunei’s bid to become a platform for cutting edge research is not an empty boast. It is starting to happen. The process will feed on itself, and generate good jobs for Brunei’s children."
